SUMY STATE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY -: Sumy State Medical University is located in Sumy city in the North-East of Ukraine. Its history began in 1948. Sumy State University is included in Global Research University Profiles (GRUP) by ShanghaiRanking. SSU is also included in the directory of world’s best universities by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Sumy State University enters the TOP-group (3%) of leading universities of the world and is classified as a university with high research intensity according to the international ranking of higher education institutions QS World University Rankings. According to these rankings, SSU enters the group of leading Ukrainian universities. SSU also ranked 101-150 among the fastest-rising young stars of the higher education world by the QS.
HISTORY-: In 1992 the first medical students were enrolled. With the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine № 646 of 13.08.1993 on the basis of SFTI Sumy State University was established. Since August 17 2004 the university is headed by prof. Anatolyi V. Vasylyev, who since 1978 worked as the first deputy director of the department, the first vice rector of the SIPT, SumDU. In 2014, the university ranked fourth among the universities of Ukraine in the TOP-700 universities of the world, in accordance with one of the most prestigious QS world rankings, which identified Sumy State University in the group of leaders in the Ukrainian educational and scientific space. .
Academics-: There are more than 3000 employees in the university, including Corresponding Members of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine, about 130 Doctors of Sciences, Professors and 660 Candidates of Sciences (PhD), Associate Professors represent academic staff of the University. There are postgraduate and post-doctoral programmes in 21 majors, degree awarding academic councils. The University holds the highest position among Ukrainian higher education institutions for the number of prize-winning places in All-Ukrainian competition.The University currently serves about 14,000 students who are pursuing prebachelor, bachelor, specialist and master degrees in 51 majors and 22 fields of knowledge. MEDICAL FACULTY-: Medical Institute provides training on such specialties as “General Medicine,” “Prophylactic Medicine” and “Stomatology.” Postgraduate education is provided on such specialties as “Therapy,” “Surgery,” “General practice,” “Family Medicine,” “Obstetrics and Gynecology,” “Infectious Disease,” and “Pediatrics.” Students and the academic staff have an opportunity to enter Ph.D. programmes of 9 specialties. Nowadays, 50 graduate students and 3 doctoral students are studying for receiving an academic degree. Currently work is done by one research grant of the President of Ukraine. The specialty “General Medicine” appeared at the Medical Faculty of Sumy State University in 1 September 1992. To accommodate Faculty resolution of the Regional Council was allocated academic building and two dormitories that consisted of 235 places. Faculty of Medicine was situated in such picturesque location as Basy Park near the Psel River. .
Faculty and Staff-: At 78 University departments, at the Institute of Clinical Pathology, in the Central Research Laboratory (CRL) and Laboratory of industrial toxicology are working 1211 scientists: 134 Doctor of Sciences and more than 620 PhD degree holders, including 113 full professors, 369 associate professors, 50 senior tutors, 662 assistant professors, 17 researchers. Among them there are 23 Members, 7 Corresponding Members of Academy of Sciences, 12 Honored Workers of Science and Technology, 7 Honored Workers of Education, 19 Honored Doctors, 1 Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sport, 8 Laureates of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology. Today Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University combines 6 faculties, medical college, 78 departments (including 48 clinical departments), 14 academic buildings, 41 affiliated hospitals, University dental medical centre for more than 2000 attendances during shift, teaching drugstore, botanical garden, CRL and Laboratory of industrial toxicology, Institute of clinical pathology, research centre for investigation of anticancer drugs, scientific library, 8 student hostels, sanatorium, student cafes and canteens, sports and health recovery camp “Medyk”. There are 40 amateur groups, clubs, workshops in University. Among them three amateur groups have the high degree of National. These National amateur groups are: folk dance ensemble “Horytsvit” (Adonis), folk choir “Muses of Hippocrates”, folk ensemble “Medicus”. There are 23 sport-public and recreation and sports clubs in the University.OTHER FIELD THEN STUDY-: 40 kinds of sports and about 100 sports groups are available at the University. Sports teams perform at the premier league level. About 100 students are the record breakers and prize winners of the Olympic Games, World, European and Ukrainian Championships. The students of the university have an opportunity to develop and improve their skills in 16 clubs in accordance with their interests. There are vocal, instrumental, jazz ensembles, rock bands, dance clubs, drama groups, theater of variety miniatures, folk ensembles, literary and creative workshop and others.
