ABOUT KAZAKHSTAN
KAZAKHSTAN is world’s 9th biggest country by its size. And it is more than twice the size of the other central Asian states combined. Kazakhstan is richest country in Central Asia, due to its large oil and natural gas reserves. Kazakhstan is mountainous along its far eastern and southeastern borders, where much of the forested Altai and Tian Shan ranges remains snowcapped throughout the year and with many elevated peaks exceeding 6,500 meters. The most northerly among the Central Asian republics, Kazakhstan has a long bor¬der with Russia on the west and north, and was the first to be annexed to the Soviet Union. To the south are the republics of Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan and in the southwest is the Caspian Sea. China lies to the east.
